Chateau Grief 262

Grant: Yes. Why deny it? I’m just an irrational old man.

Narration(Kore): His words are no secret. Every interaction with Xander worries him, bothers him..

Narration(Kore):…pushes him into a corner…

Narration(Kore):…so he lashes out like a bear, blindly hoping that there would be some relief from the pain.

Narration(Kore): I have to be that rescue. Xander loves Grant more than his own soul.

Narration(Kore): That must be the way out. Neither of them can see it.

Kore: I believe too. That if you have faith…you can move mountains.

Grant: Don’t mock me, telepath!

Narration(Kore): Off to find the great missing Vespasian Eugene Xander…who hasn’t bothered to lend a condescending wave of his little finger to the disaster suppression efforts.

Narration(Kore): Trying to do his duty. Keep his charge stable. For his country.

Narration(Kore): He’s done for Xander for forty years…what I spent the last five hours trying to accomplish for Shane. With no advantage but his words. His dignity.

Narration(Kore): He will be the answer. I must target Grant without mercy.

Author Notes:

Kore the abyss is gazing also into you...

characters: Kore and Grant

Episode Recap:

Grant has been asked why he stubbornly refuses to account for Xander’s view of reality, even though he knows Xander to have insight that he himself does not.  Grant deflects like a pro.  Surrendering to Xander’s version of things would somehow unmoor him.  Grant prefers irrationality.  And grumpiness.  Kore ponders what to do about this. He’s a weak point.  Xander called down fire from heaven to protect Grant from a set of brass knuckles just yesterday afternoon, and Grant isn’t ever going to acknowledge that it happened.  Cute couple, Kore thinks, and then goes off to presumably stab the nicest guy on Eynhallow repeatedly in the back.
