Qureshi: Ah James! What a day this has been!

Qureshi: I don’t mean that in the best possible way, because the till is, unfortunately, quite emptier than usual, but I mean this great thing has happened!

Qureshi: James have you seen them? Marching off to defeat the telepath with their heads held high, with clear eyes and smiles on their faces.

Qureshi: It’s just like we always imagined it would be, isn’t it? I am almost afraid that, —the day has come at last! — and we did not prepare enough pamphlets to help everyone when…they all woke up and decided that they wished to be free from tyranny!

Qureshi: But James Marozi! What a special day this is!

Marozi: They are hunting down the Smaragdos. To kill her. She is our last best hope to defeat Xander.

Marozi: All because the island is now concerned that the government is run by Satanists? Show me a single government that isn’t run by Satanists!

Qureshi: That’s unfortunate.

Narration(Marozi): he’s genuinely upset. But not with my words, only the force with which I express my convictions. It’s gauche.

Marozi: Esme started this, she’s egging them on.

Qureshi: Surely not! How can you say such things!

Qureshi: You are ignorant of Esme’s true goals. If only you’d clear your head of emotion, you’d understand about these telepaths. The most important thing we can do is maintain our serene mind.

Qureshi: Xander will be in our heads in a heartbeat if we ever let our emotions run away with us. Then we will be facing death. Or at the very least he will force us to change in ways that are not our own.

Marozi: An innocent woman is going to doe because of us. What’s the use of winning the war if we give up our souls in the battle?

Author Notes:

Never ask a rhetorical question to which you don't know the answer?

characters: James Marozi (Rafe), Qureshi, Greg

Episode Recap:

Qureshi is inside the bookstore cleaning the counters and enjoying himself. He has had a great day, seeing his dreams realized as everyone starts breaking things until Xander goes away. Gregory Campbell is lettering signs in the corner. Marozi still thinks that using Kore as a Mata Hari (see chapter 7) would be more efficient way to trap and murder Xander. He uses the word ‘defeat’. Though who exactly is getting trapped here by the archangel is certainly open for debate. Qureshi doesn’t want anyone to die in his revolution, but he’s completely convinced that everything will be non-violent anyways so there’s nothing to worry about! Good news! He defends Esme from Marozi’s accusations and re-emphasizes their need and ability to manage their free will to keep Xander from exercising his superpowers on them to make them behave. The key to defeating the telepath lay within themselves all along! Marozi, while remaining dubious, asks Qureshi whether they will be exposed to guilt due to their actions. But Qureshi has lost the plot, and has no idea what Marozi is even talking about.
