Chateau Grief 48

Narration(Grant): I first shook hands with Eugene Xander in 1967. The summer of love. He was a half-grown boy. Twenty years old. What was so special about him? Loner. Loser.

Narration(Grant): He actually dedicated seven whole years to playing incompetent.

Flashback(Grant): Cigarette?

Flashback(Xander): Those are going to kill you sir, respectfully.

Narration(Grant): They'd told me what he was. But they had no idea what 'telepath' meant any more than I did. How could we when he wanted us to stay stupid?

Narration(Grant): These days, if he declares himself immortal, I pay attention.

Grant: I'm glad of my mortality. It gives me hope that one day I'll get to go home to be with my family.

Xander: Show me them. Remember again, so I can see.

Grant: I'd prefer to tell you, rather than have you rip it from me.

Grant: Lulu and I didn't have a dime. It seems odd now to marry your high-school sweetheart but we thought we'd waited a long time. America was a different place then. Can I stop yet?

Xander: And she died trying to give you a son, or was it a daughter?

Grant: I've told you a thousand times before...I never asked.

Song Lyric: All alone I gaze, at the stars, at the stars, dreaming of my love, far away

Author Notes:

Short week this week.  I make up for it with the next few.  It's always a challenge figuring out where to divide these scenes!  ,
